Let’s make it
Frying Bologna
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and add half the butter. Once melted and sizzling, place the bologna slices in the skillet. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on one side until slightly browned, then flip.
Frying Bologna
After flipping, place a slice of cheddar cheese on each bologna slice and cook for another 2-3 minutes until cheese melts and bologna is browned to your liking.
Preparing Bread
In the meantime, spread mayonnaise and/or mustard on the bread slices as desired.
Toasting Bread
Remove bologna and cheese from the skillet and set aside. Add remaining butter to the skillet. Toast the bread slices in the butter until golden brown on both sides, about 1-2 minutes per side.
Assembly and Serving
Assemble the sandwich by placing the fried bologna with melted cheese between the toasted bread slices. Sprinkle freshly ground black pepper if desired. Serve immediately.
Tips & notes
Use medium thickness bologna for the best texture. Fry until edges just start to crisp for extra flavor. Toasting the bread in butter adds richness and crunch.
Saving it for later
Store any leftover fried bologna and sandwich components separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator. Consume within 3 days for best quality.
Reheating
Reheat fried bologna slices gently in a skillet over low heat to avoid overcooking. Assemble with freshly toasted bread. Avoid microwaving assembled sandwich to preserve texture.
