Let’s make it

  1. Preparation

Prepare all ingredients: slice beef sirloin thinly against the grain, chop broccoli into bite-sized florets, mince garlic, and slice onion. Measure out spices and sauces.

  2. Cooking

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until shimmering.

  3. Cooking

Add sliced beef to the pan in a single layer, cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes until browned on one side. Stir and cook an additional 2 minutes until cooked through but still tender. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.

  4. Cooking

In the same skillet, add minced garlic and sliced onion. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and onions start to soften.

  5. Cooking

Add broccoli florets and stir fry for 3-4 minutes until bright green and just tender-crisp. Add a splash of water if needed to help steam the broccoli.

  6. Cooking

Return beef to the skillet, sprinkle Cajun seasoning, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and add soy sauce and brown sugar. Stir well to coat all ingredients evenly with the spicy sauce, cooking for another 2 minutes to meld flavors.

  7. Finishing

Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary, adding more Cajun seasoning or red pepper flakes for heat or soy sauce for saltiness.

  8. Serving

Transfer to serving dish and garnish with thinly sliced green onions before serving hot, ideally with steamed rice or your favorite grain.

A little kitchen wisdom

Tips & notes

For best texture, slice the beef thinly across the grain to keep it tender. Adjust red pepper flakes according to your preferred spice level. A splash of water or broth while cooking broccoli helps retain its vibrant color and crispness. Serve immediately to enjoy the fresh crunch of broccoli.

Saving it for later

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator within 2 hours of cooking. Consume within 3-4 days for best quality. Reheat thoroughly before serving.

Reheating

Reheat in a skillet over medium heat, adding a splash of water or broth to prevent drying. Stir frequently to heat evenly until hot throughout. Alternatively, microwave covered in short intervals, stirring in between.
