Let’s make it
Fried Okra
Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (390°F) for about 5 minutes. Spray the air fryer basket lightly with olive oil spray to prevent sticking.
Fried Okra
In a large bowl, whisk together the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
Fried Okra
In a separate bowl, beat the egg and milk until combined. Dip the sliced okra pieces into the egg mixture, then dredge evenly in the cornmeal mixture, making sure each piece is coated completely.
Fried Okra
Place the coated okra pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Spray them lightly with olive oil spray to help them become crisp and golden.
Fried Okra
Air fry the okra at 200°C (390°F) for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket or turning the pieces halfway through cooking, until the okra is crisp and golden brown.
Cajun Remoulade
While the okra cooks, prepare the Cajun remoulade by mixing mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, freshly squeezed lemon juice, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, and hot sauce (if using) in a small bowl until smooth and well combined.
Fried Okra
Once the okra is crisp, carefully transfer it to a serving plate. Serve immediately with the Cajun remoulade sauce on the side for dipping.
Tips & notes
For crispiest okra, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket and shake or turn okra halfway through cooking. Adjust cayenne to taste for spiciness in both coating and remoulade. Serve immediately as the okra is best hot and crispy.
Saving it for later
Store leftover fried okra in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The crispness will lessen upon refrigeration.
Reheating
Reheat leftover okra in the air fryer at 190°C (375°F) for 3-5 minutes until heated through and crisp again. Avoid microwaving to preserve crunchiness.
